But after being hired in the early s by a music production company to do a commercial jingle for a water bed store, Howdy realized he could make a good living writing and recording TV and radio jingles for his own company.

After lamenting that it was difficult to find a radio station that played songs suitable for kids, he decided to write and record tunes his young son and daughter could enjoy.
