What if george lucas remake the old republic

One topic area that is often revisited is the status of the Old Republic era in the timeline. Indeed, thanks to the Knights Of The Old Republic games, this part of the franchise has remained astoundingly popular amongst audiences. The status of the Old Republic side of the series is a little bit complicated. Whether it has a genuine future within the franchise remains to be seen. However, there's a lot of news out there when it comes to projects and the continuation of stories that will certainly delight fans.

After Disney bought Lucasfilm from George Lucas, the acquisition meant that they could decide what would be considered official Canon and which parts of the extended universe would really be seen as Legends. The phrase came to encompass pretty much everything asides from the main series of movies and animated shows.

However, since that time there have been some mentions of the Old Republic across Star Wars canon. A soft reboot could be an option, therefore, with Lucasfilm now only including certain aspects of the Old Republic which fits into their own narratives.

The Old Republic is still being left a space in the overall Star Wars timeline though. That could mean anything from Zayne Carrick and characters from Knights of the Old Republic II showing up to drawing on ideas from the High Republic or Tales of the Jedi — or entirely unique new stories that have nothing to do with either timeline.

The subsequent comics went bolder, finding ways to integrate outlandish characters like Detective Chimp and make them emotionally impactful. Its willingness to try things in isolated yet flexible sandboxes has created a perfect testing ground for ideas that have since been rolled into countless other projects. Star Wars used to do something similar with its layered canon method, letting the best ideas float to the top.

Now Lucasfilm has the chance to establish a new creative testbed with one of its most popular series. Of course, there's the question of canon. It's a great story, but did it 'really' happen? Another big change that occurred between KOTOR's release and now is that the events of the game may no longer be part of the main Star Wars continuity.

When Disney snapped up Star Wars they categorised this game, and countless other Star Wars spin-offs from the so-called expanded universe, as Legends.

So the whole situation is a little unclear. There's also a rumour flying around that Shutter Island screenwriter Laeta Kalogridis is working on a KOTOR movie for Disney, so maybe this story, if the film sticks closely to it, will be canon after all. Really, it doesn't matter. Just because the short story anthology Tales of the Bounty Hunters is as non-canon as it gets doesn't mean it isn't still a fun collection of Star Wars yarns. Some fictional universes benefit from a consistent, traceable timeline, but Star Wars is like a myth, a fairytale, and that makes this less important.

Who really knows what happened four thousand years ago? KOTOR is just one possible version of those events. If anything, BioWare made its take on the universe a little too similar to classic Star Wars—especially considering the amount of time that's supposed to have passed between this game and the original trilogy.

But I'll let it slide, because the established language of Star Wars—blasters, speeders, astromech droids, cocky smugglers, pious Jedi, and so on—lays a familiar foundation to tell this new story on. BioWare could have created something completely different and alien, and I'm sure they would have done a great job of it, but it might not have felt very Star Wars.

And even though some of the lore established by the game has since been contradicted by Jon Favreau and Dave Filioni's TV show, a heavy Mandalorian presence makes KOTOR particularly enjoyable if you've just finished watching the adventures of Din Djarin and his tiny green Force sensitive friend.

Doctor Who has managed that for 60 years now, but it has constantly contradicted itself, treading back over old ground with a new face, but it never bothers to explain why. Eternals has a post-credit scene, but it's one that left many scratching their heads.
