The Call from Death. While in a bar with her friends, the teenager Yoko Okazaki Anna Nagata receives a call in her cellular with a voice mail from the future telling the date and time when she would die.

On the next day, Yumi overhears a group of students talking about the urban legend that people connected in the address book of cellular are mysteriously receiving phone calls with date and time of their death in the near future.

In the precise informed hour, Yoko is attacked by a supernatural force in a train station while talking to her friend Yumi Nakamura Kou Shibasaki by phone and dies with severed arm and leg. Yumi seeks out Kioto's boyfriend Kenji Kawai Atsushi Ida , who also received a call, and witnesses his death in an elevator shaft. When her roommate Natsumi Konishi Kazue Fukiishi receives a call, Yoko befriends Hiroshi Yamashita Shin'ichi Tsutsumi , who tells her that his sister Ritsuko Azusa that worked in the Child Guidance Center with abused children was the first victim of the phone call.

While in the hospital, Yumi hears an asthma pump and recalls that she heard the same noise when Kenji died. They decide to investigate victims of asthma in the hospital and find the name of Marie Mizunuma and her daughters Mimiko and Nanako. They search the family together trying to save Natsumi from her fate. However, the last quarter of the movie is confused, not clear, needing interpretation; therefore, the screenplay writer Minako Daira or the cult director Takashi Miike or both failed since they were not able to transmit a clear conclusion of the story to the audience.

Goofs at around 13 mins The murders occur in June, but when Leann is in class looking out the window, the trees are losing their leaves, as though it were fall. Quotes [from trailer] Leann Cole : That's not my ringtone. User reviews Review. Top review. One Positive Review ok, middle of the road. Facts: As of 4. The accusations leveled over and over are: worst movie ever, terrible, trash, stupid and the like. Here's my sad story about One Missed Call: It was a rainy Sunday afternoon I live in Seattle so I went to the local video store looking for a mindless movie to watch while laying about.

I almost felt it call to me and for a fraction of a second my hand, with a mind of its own, started to reach out for it. Needless to say, I retrieved my composure and hurried away. As I walked a little further down the aisle I spotted another movie: Reservation Road.

Thank goodness! As I headed for the front counter, reading the back of the box, it said Reservation Road was something to the effect of being a deep, emotional story. Not exactly the mindless fare for a rainy Sunday! So, completely loosing my mind and throwing caution to the wind, I snuck back and returned the copy of Reservation Road. Then, making certain no one else was around, grabbed a copy One Missed Call. I quickly tucked THE movie under my arm so that no passers-by could read the title and know the poor decision I had just made.

As I made my way to the counter, I made sure no line of happy movie renters were there so as to avoid their judging eyes. Shelley walks towards it but after a quick second, she finds it standing on the other side of the pond.

Bewildered by the situation, she suddenly hears strange murmuring in the pond and out of nowhere, a hand emerges and drags Shelley into the pond, drowning her. A red candy then appears on the surface and the same hand proceeds to drag the cat and drowns it as well. College student Beth Raymond is talking with her friend, Leann, who attended Shelley's funeral.

Leann's cellphone rings with a lullaby-like ringtone, and it says it's from Shelley. Leann listens to the voicemail, which is herself screaming. The voicemail is dated three days in the future. Leann begins to experience hallucinations that make her increasingly anxious.

While walking home minutes before the time on the voicemail, she calls Beth. Beth runs to get Leann but unfortunately, she arrives at the same time Leann accidentally falls off from an overpass and lands on top of an speeding train, killing her.

Although obviously dead, Leann's hand dials a number on her phone. At Leann's funeral, Beth's roommate, Taylor, is talking about Shelley receiving a strange voicemail before her death, just like Leann had. Brian, Leann's ex-boyfriend, begins to see disturbing apparitions, and leaves the funeral in a rush.

Beth catches Brian outside a coffee shop and Brian shows her a voicemail he received the night Leann died, from Leann's phone. Beth realizes the voicemail is dated mere seconds away. An explosion at a nearby construction site sends a rebar through Brian's torso. Brian coughs out a red hard candy and collapses, as Beth stares in horror.

When Beth arrives home, a distraught Taylor is waiting for her. Taylor says she knows she's next, even though she hasn't received a voicemail. Beth assures her that it isn't going to happen, and takes the batteries out of both their cellphones to ensure they can't receive calls.

Later that night, Beth and Taylor are awakened by the lullaby ringtone coming from Taylor's battery-less cellphone.
